TLC brought many positive activities like stretching, meditation, stress management, and how to regulate emotions, as well as why I feel different emotions. I learned affirmations and how to be present in the moment. Thank you for teaching me forgiveness and what it means. I also learned to connect with peers around me that I originally could not resonate with. TLC brought insight into how to deal with bullies and what not to do. I couldn’t be any more grateful. THANK YOU TLC!

The TLC program is the first of its kind that I know of in the entire nation that addresses issues of post-treatment rehabilitation back to a normal life, to a life of self-esteem where the patient is able to put their pediatric cancer diagnosis behind them and focus on the future and on their ability to be happy. For the patients who’ve been through it, the TLC program has been life-altering.

I teach moral development at UCI. TLC actually lives it and delivers it. They are the rubber that meets the road. And we know with teenagers, that road can get bumpy. Wonderful to have a program and staff that commits to making their ride smoother and meaningful.

My favorite part was [writing] in the journal. I learned [techniques] and how to feel great about myself as well as how to manage my emotions. I’ll always remember our facilitator, Eric, and this journal in Health class.

TLC helped me have a more positive outlook on post-treatment life. It also taught me the power of positive thinking and meditation.

I’ll never forget being part of TLC. Some mornings are more difficult and stepping into a room where you could fully process those emotions and still have that opportunity to learn was truly amazing. The activities allowed me to place any negative emotions into something positive- my personal favorite being the ones involving plants, as I’ve learned it helps me calm down. I experienced a lot within the program; it has taught me many things about myself and others. I will carry all that this program is in my heart with fondness.
- Kelly, 17 - Century High School
TLC helped me in unimaginable ways. The program helped me elevate my goals and aims which had slowly weakened because of previous health issues. Tilly and her team also made me realize that my physical limits can never stop me from living an ideal limitless life.

Adolescence is a critical period of social, emotional, and behavioral growth. Decisions made during adolescence can change a teen’s life trajectory for better or for worse. By providing an engaging, positive youth development intervention at a time when it is greatly needed, TLC has the potential to have a life-long, meaningful impact on teens’ lives.
- Dr. Kimberley Lakes - Associate Professor, Pediatrics, UC Irvine School of Medicine
I was born with spina bifida and have had multiple major surgeries and extended hospital stays related to my diagnosis. Recovery from each surgery had multiple setbacks, stress, and increased my anxiety and fear. TLC workshops helped me to believe in and speak up for myself. I learned that worry can't control me, and my feelings are valuable. My anxiety doesn’t torment and frighten me anymore, because I learned how to manage my challenging thoughts. My favorite workshop was I Am Continuing to Grow. I learned growing can be painful and hard sometimes, but in growing I am becoming a better me!
